NEW DELHI: The Punjab government informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for more than a month, has agreed to receive medical assistance after the Centre accepted his proposal for talks.
A vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and Sudhanshu Dhulia reviewed a petition filed by the Punjab government requesting an additional three days to comply with the SC's December 20 order.
Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh stated, "According to the negotiators, the farmers have proposed to the Centre that if they receive an invitation for talks, Dallewal is willing to seek medical help as needed." He added that the state government was requesting more time to work towards fulfilling the court's directions.
