Centre reimposes AFSPA in 6 Manipur areas citing 'continuous volatile situation'

|November 15, 2024
The Centre reimposed the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in six police station areas of Manipur, including the violence-hit Jiribam, citing the "continuous volatile situation" arising from ongoing ethnic violence.
-
The Union Home Ministry announced the decision on Thursday.
The notification coincided with the Manipur police reporting the seizure of a cache of arms and ammunition from Jiribam and Churachandpur districts. In operations conducted in Jiribam's Champanagar, Narayanpur, and Thangboipunjre areas, the police recovered one 2-inch mortar, 36 live barrel cartridges, and several other weapons. Similar operations in H Kotlian village, Churachandpur, yielded additional arms, including a .303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, locally made cannons, and ammunition.
