After bail rejection, Umar Khalid's partner says 'SC is only option left'

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is the only option left, Umar Khalid's partner said on Tuesday after the high court rejected the bail plea of the activist who has been in jail since September 2020 in a conspiracy case linked to the northeast Delhi riots.
Banjyotsana Lahiri expressed the hope that they will get justice in the near future. "Keeping someone in jail for five years without any trial is in itself a ground for bail. But Khalid's plea is again rejected by the High Court. We do not understand the reason because, as citizens, we only look up to courts for justice. We will go to the Supreme Court, as that is the only option left for us," Lahiri stated.
