They gave him a piece of baked fish

Jesus appears to his disciples in Jerusalem. The disciples are startled and terrified, thinking that they are seeing a ghost.

Jesus gives them the assurance that it is him. It is the risen Lord who always assures us that, no matter how startling and terrifying the situation is, fears and uncertainties will come to pass, and things will fall in place. But we are first called to a mutual relationship with the risen Jesus.

Today's Gospel passage narrates Jesus eating a piece of baked fish given by his disciples. We recall that at the end of the Emmaus story, it is Jesus who breaks the bread and gives it to the two disciples. The two disciples then are the recipients of the bread given by Jesus.

Today's Gospel pericope implies that when he receives the piece of baked fish and eats it before his disciples, Jesus reminds us of the beauty of mutual relationship.

Are we in a mutual relationship with Jesus? Do we recognize all the blessings we receive from him? What can we give to Jesus in return?
