Stress busters

Manila Bulletin

|

November 25, 2025

It would be safe to say that most people do not view stress as something they would want.

It is generally considered a negative thing that causes many health issues, including anxiety, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, obesity, and diabetes, which can even lead to death. What causes stress? Depending on your personality, status, and personal circumstances, stress is caused by different things for different people.

You may take for granted that you have a nice house to live in and the luxury of deciding what to have for dinner. Other people, who live in shanties or even on the streets, with nothing to eat, may find that stressful. However, they are not stressed out by taking exams, submitting papers, or commuting, because those issues are totally irrelevant to them. That being the case, there are a number of stress busters that most people will find helpful.

First is having a support group. Second is being able to come up with options and alternatives. Third is having the financial resources to neutralize the source of the stress. I am certain there are a number of other stress busters that you can come up with, but to me, these three items are the most basic and effective ways of overcoming stress.
