Senate eyes transfer to new building by 2027

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano said yesterday the Senate might move to its new building in Taguig City by 2027.

Cayetano disclosed the new target date of the Senate's transfer to the New Building at the sidelines of Sen. Pia Cayetano's oath-taking ceremony at the new Taguig City Hall.

"Yun ang (that's the) target. So, we're playing safe na (that it would be in the) last quarter," Cayetano told reporters in an interview.

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero last February said the Senate is targeting to move to the New Senate Building by 2028.

But according to Cayetano, the Upper Chamber is considering transferring to a much earlier date to cut down on rental costs at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) building in Pasay City.
