Amid ongoing impact of Typhoon "Emong" and the lingering effects of earlier storms, all water service disconnection activities for non-payment have been temporarily suspended by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty said on Friday, July 25, that pausing disconnections aims to prioritize public health during the onslaught of the typhoon season. MWSS' directive prohibits Manila Water Co. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. from disconnecting any customers during the 15-day period.

"This directive does not cover disconnection cases involving water service tampering, violations of Republic Act No. 8041 (Water Crisis Act), or other unlawful activities," Ty clarified. "At this critical time, when access to clean, safe, and reliable water is essential to protecting public health, the MWSS-RO has likewise instructed the Concessionaires to ensure water supply availability for all customers."

Housing payment moratorium

On the other hand, state-run Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) has imposed a one-month moratorium or temporary suspension of principal payments due to the severe impact of Crising and the excessive rainfall.
