President Marcos has urged Filipinos to fight for their future through the ballot and to vote for those who are capable of serving them.

- BY BETHEENA UNITE

In a video message on the eve of the May 12 midterm elections, Marcos called on the public to exercise their right and obligation to vote.

"Ipinaglalaban natin ang kinabukasan sa balota. Hindi sa lansangan. Hindi sa karahasan (We are fighting for our future through the ballots. Not on the streets. Not through violence)," Marcos said.

"Kaya bumoto po tayo. Piliin ang tapat, may malasakit, at may kakayahang magsilbi (So, let us vote. Choose someone who is honest, compassionate, and capable of serving)," Marcos added.

He stressed that the election is an opportunity for their aspirations to be heard.

Thus, he called on the people to uphold democracy despite differences in their beliefs.

"Isang pagkakataon ito para marinig ang boses ng bawat isa at maipahayag ang mga pangarap na mahalaga sa inyo at sa bayan (This is an opportunity for everyone's voice to be heard and to convey your aspirations that are important to you and the nation)," Marcos said.

"Iba't iba man ang ating paniniwala, 'yan ang diwa ng demokrasya. Pero ang pagkakaiba ng opinyon ay hindi dapat mauwi sa gulo o pananakot (We may have differing beliefs, that's the spirit of democracy. But our different opinions should not lead to chaos or threat)," Marcos said.

The President also appealed to candidates to respect the process and let peace reign during the elections.

"At sa mga kandidato, igalang natin ang proseso. Tapusin natin ang halalan ng may dangal at katahimikan (And to the candidates, let us respect the process. Let us end the election with dignity and calm)," Marcos said.

"Magtulungan po tayo upang mapanatili ang isang maayos, mapayapa, at makatarungang halalan (Let us work together to uphold an orderly, peaceful, and fair election)," Marcos added.

We are free citizens Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero yesterday reminded voters to exercise their right to suffrage as the nation votes for the country's next leaders.
