The lack of concern for the needs of the people is the true foe of freedom, President Marcos underscored this on Independence Day as he slammed government officials who abuse their positions and abandon or neglect their duties.
Speaking at the celebration of the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood on Thursday, June 12, Marcos called for accountability on the issues concerning high prices of food, damaged roads, and power crisis not only those who abuse their positions, but also those who fall short in their duties.
His Independence Day speech came a day after his visits to Siquijor, which has been experiencing weeks of island-wide blackouts and rotational brownouts; and Tacloban City to inspect the San Juanico Bridge, which has reached critical condition.
Marcos stressed that freedom and democracy, like love for the country, must be nurtured and fought for.
