Marcos: Abuse of power, greed must come to an end

President Marcos has rallied the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) to end the abuse of power and greed in the government, saying the people have grown weary and angry amid the massive infrastructure-related corruption and anomalies.

"The unscrupulous abuse of power and greed must come to an end," he declared.

"Ladies and gentlemen, amidst the challenges affecting our institutions, we must remain firm, uncompromised, and united in fighting corruption," Marcos said in his speech at the oath taking ceremony of the officials of the LVGP on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The President stressed that many Filipinos are dismayed by the series of issues overwhelming them every day, adding that public officials must not dismiss their rage, instead confront them.

"Our people are exhausted, they are disappointed, they are angry. And as I have said before, their rage is valid. It is born from years of frustration at a government characterized by systemic dysfunction and unfulfilled promises," he said.

"Let us not dismiss that anger. Let us confront it. Let us be humble and provide concrete solutions," he told the governors.

He also told them that "we know what's wrong, so we must correct them," emphasizing that reforming the government is the only way to win back the trust of the people.

The Chief Executive also urged the governors to prove that genuine service is not defined by political affiliation but by sincerity, action, and accountability.

He reminded officials that public service comes with the duty to uphold integrity and deliver genuine reforms that respond to the people's needs.

"Tandaan natin: Ang bawat posisyon ay may kaakibat na tungkulin at responsibilidad-responsibilidad itaguyod ang makabuluhang pagbabago sa inyong mga lalawigan (Let us remember: every position comes with duties and responsibilities-responsibilities to promote meaningful change in your provinces," Marcos said.
