LRT cashless fare system starts in Nov.

Long queues at Metro Manila’s public rail stations could soon ease as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) rolls out, ahead of schedule, a cashless fare payment system for Light Rail Transit Lines 1 (LRT-1) and 2 (LRT-2).
During Hong Kong Fintech Week 2025, BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan told Manila Bulletin that while the government had committed to introducing the upgrade at the two LRT lines, implementation will likely begin this November.
Lito Villanueva, executive vice president of Yuchengco-led Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC), confirmed to Manila Bulletin that the first "scan-and-tap" transactions are officially scheduled for Nov. 25.
According to Tangonan, who heads the BSP’s payments and currency management sector, RCBC is the lead bank among the participating financial institutions in this initiative.
