Domestic factory output decelerates in June

Factory output growth slowed to a three-month low in June as the domestic production of chemicals, metals, and petroleum products dropped year-on-year.

The Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) latest Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) released on Thursday, Aug. 7, showed that the volume of production index (VoPI) grew by 2.2 percent in June, slower than May’s 3.4 percent and April’s 2.5 percent.

The growth in June’s VoPI—a proxy for factory output—was nonetheless an improvement from the quarter ago contraction of 0.1 percent posted in March.

Compared to a year ago, June 2025's VoPI growth was below the 3.8 percent year-on-year increase in June 2024.

The deceleration in annual VoPI growth last June was primarily driven by three industry divisions.

The manufacturing volume for basic metals dropped 23.2 percent year-on-year in June, faster than the 12.5-percent decline in May.

The manufacture of coke and refined petroleum recorded an annual decline of 12 percent, also faster than the 6.1-percent drop in the previous month.
