Actors Carmina Villarroel and Zoren Legaspi shared insights into their family's unique approach to navigating the intricate worlds of relationships and finances with their children, Mavy and Cassy.

With warmth and understanding, they illuminated the importance of open conversations, ensuring their kids are well-prepared to handle life's complexities with confidence.
In an interview with the Legapis for the series "Hating Kapatid" on GMA Network, Carmina and Zoren passionately shared the invaluable lessons they've instilled in their children about the importance of financial independence and the beauty of nurturing healthy relationships.
Their commitment to empowering their kids with the tools for personal freedom and self-sufficiency shone through in their heartfelt discussion.
Falling in love
"When it comes to being in a relationship, you have to experience it. Whether you are a dad or a mother, hindi talaga sila makikinig once they are in love, they need to learn it by themselves. Tama ba ito or hindi? But eventually nagigising din naman yung tao. (Whether you are a dad or a mother, your children don't listen once they are in love. Is it right or wrong? But eventually they will realize it)," said Zoren.
He added, "Pero kami nagusap na kami ni Mina, kung saan sila maligaya, maligaya na kami. We have no opinions about their love life. Kung sino ang magustuhan nila, we have no opinions. (But Mina and I have talked about it, and where they are happy, we are happy. We have no opinions about their love life. Who they like, we have no opinions.)"
Carmina said, "Kahit na ano pa ang pigil mo, kahit na ano ang kontra mo, which we don't do, they are of age already, they can decide on their own. Pero kahit na meron silang ganun, we still have respect. (No matter what you do, no matter what you oppose, which we don't do, they are of age already, they can decide on their own. But even if they have that, we still have respect.)"

What was it like as a high school student in the '50s?
On Jan. 1, 1950, I was in firecracker-tossing and torotot-blowing Manila. There were no hydrogen bombs or China-made firework spectaculars. I had just returned from my first trip to Baguio, was a week short of my 11th birthday, and had just begun my freshman year at Arellano High School.
