ONE supermarket has topped our price comparison as the most expensive store for the eighth week running after selling one item for considerably more than its rivals.

We previously reported how Sainsbury's is selling its 500g pack of mince meat for £3.50, coming in at a significantly higher price than rivals Lidl, Aldi and Morrisons who are selling the item for £2.99. It is only the likes of Asda and Tesco who are following Sainsbury's to break the £3 mark for the price of the item, with Asda now charging £3.14 while Tesco has recently followed Sainsbury's in charging £3.50.

We've been tracking the prices of the same eight essentials across the six main supermarkets since March 2022, with chicken, beans, bread, butter, tea, coffee and milk also on the list.

But with Sainsbury's appearing to refuse to drop the price of its mince, the supermarket has come in at the most expensive store in our price comparison for the eighth week running, with a total cost of £13.84 for eight commonly bought items.

But Tesco, which is also selling its 20 per cent mince for £3.50, is now narrowly behind Sainsbury's as the second most expensive supermarket, with an overall cost in our comparison at £13.81.
