RABBI REVEALS BRAVERY OF TRAGIC VICTIM AS MOURNERS GATHER AT FUNERAL TO PAY RESPECTS

- By DAMON WILKINSON

ADRIAN Daulby was a quiet and gentle man.

But when 'evil struck' he became a 'tremendously strong hero'. Those were the moving words of Rabbi Daniel Walker as Mr Daulby was laid to rest yesterday at Agecroft cemetery in Salford.

Dozens of mourners turned out to pay their respects to the 53-year-old, one of two men who died during Thursday's terror attack at Heaton Park synagogue.

Mr Daulby was accidentally shot by police as they tried to prevent Jihad Al-Shamie, who was armed with a knife, from getting into the synagogue on Middleton Road on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Mr Daulby, of Crumpsall, was behind the entrance door and suffered a gunshot wound along with Yoni Finlay who was near him and hit in the stomach but is recovering.

Giving a eulogy at the funeral Rabbi Walker described how when the attacker tried to force his way into the synagogue, Mr Daulby 'leapt from his seat'.
