Tributes to councillor as by-election called

A BY-ELECTION has been called by Trafford Council following the tragic passing of Broadheath councillor Denise Western.

It will take place on October 16 in Broadheath, with the count taking place on the same night.

Coun Western, the mother of Stretford and Urmston MP Andrew Western, was first elected as a local councillor for the ward in 2012.

She passed away on August 22 following a short illness.

She held many roles during her time as a local councillor, including as Chair of Trafford Council's Children’s Scrutiny Committee.

Following her death, council leader and Labour colleague Tom Ross said: “Denise worked for the NHS until her recent retirement.

“She was mother to five children and she had five grandchildren.
