Harry's back in form at just the right time
Manchester Evening News
|September 24, 2025
OF the five changes made by Ruben Amorim in United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea, that of Harry Maguire was perhaps the most curious.
Maguire, restored to the starting lineup in the Premier League for the first time this season after three sub appearances, was replaced by Leny Yoro after 70 minutes at Old Trafford.
Reds boss Ruben Amorim gave no specific reason afterwards for the change, but given it was Maguire’s first start this season, it is safe to assume he was replaced to protect him from injury.
Amorim has spoken often about the dangers players face in games when they enter the ‘red zone’ and are more susceptible to injury, hence why he makes so many in-game defensive changes.
Given Maguire was immense on Saturday in the centre of United’s three-man defence, with Matthijs De Ligt and Luke Shaw equally impressive either side, those within the stadium were understandably puzzled by his withdrawal with 20 minutes plus added time remaining.
