Public concerned by R15 billion investment project

The recent announcement by the Department of Economic Development (DEDECT) regarding a massive R15 billion investment project and confirmed by the department as such, has raised concerns about the legitimacy and viability of the project.

While the department boasted and handed over the project as a major win for Klerksdorp residents, both MEC Bitsa Lenkopane's administration and Urban Blue International explicitly stated that there was no contract or agreement in place, but merely an intent to invest.

Department Spokesperson Jerry Matebesi said in response to media reports released after the hand-over, that the department wished to place it on record that Urban Blue International was one of the participants who attended the Provincial Investors Conference.

"Urban Blue International was among the private sector companies that expressed the desire to make investments in the province and the Gas to Power project is an investment proposal by Urban Blue International. The province has been working on this project for over a year to ensure that it complies with all legislative requirements - up to the current point in which it has been taken to the local municipality where it is to be implemented.
