Go-ahead given to new battery storage system

A BATTERY energy storage system which would increase the reliability of the electricity supply and improve energy security has been given the go-ahead.

The renewable energy facility, by Queequeg Renewables, will be built on a five-hectare site on fields east of Woodford Road, in Poynton.
It would have a capacity of 99.9MW allowing for the influx, storage and outflux of energy generated by renewable sources such as solar and wind farms.
Anna Morse, agent for the applicant, told a recent meeting of Cheshire East's strategic planning board the development would deliver a significant benefit in the delivery of battery storage capacity to support the decarbonisation of the energy system.
