'Soaring costs will price many out of city centre living'

PEOPLE who own flats in Manchester city centre say the area has become unaffordable as their bills have risen by as much as £792 per month, according to new a survey.

It's also been revealed that three in ten renters in town have seen their rents rise by £250 or more per month this year.

The survey, which attracted more than 400 responses, was run by Lucy Powell, right, Labour MP for Manchester Central.

"It's probably worse than I thought it was going to be in terms of the amounts of money that people are having to fork out every month," she said. "There's a really poor level of service and accountability that leaseholders and renters get for their money.
