Oldham WILL be part of housing plan despite vote

Deputy prime minster says town has to join building strategy

ANGELA Rayner has hinted that Oldham WILL remain part of Greater Manchester's huge housing plans despite voting to withdraw.

Oldham council voted to pull out of the Places for Everyone (PfE) housing blueprint, which sets out plans for 11,500 homes to be built across the borough. Councillors passed a motion two weeks ago requiring town hall bosses formally request that Oldham withdraws.

It comes four years after Stockport council pulled out of the joint development plan at the eleventh hour after more than a decade of rows and revisions of the proposal.

The remaining nine councils in Greater Manchester finally approved the masterplan last year but it is still subject to a legal challenge.
