Idwal Davies BEM, from Llanelli, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday evening.

For his services to veterans and to his local community, Mr Davies was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King's birthday honours list this year.

He was also an author who wrote books including Gone, But Not Forgotten, the proceeds of which he gave to charity.

Mr Davies was also honoured in this year's VE Day celebrations in Swansea as a veteran and also as a keen member of the Llanelli Historical Society and a supporter of the local Salvation Army.

Announcing his death, the Royal British Legion's Llanelli branch called him a "proud veteran" and a "much-loved member" of their community.

Branch president Major (Retd) Ray Batsford said: "It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Second World War veteran, Idwal Davies BEM, who passed peacefully on the evening of September 17, surrounded by his family.
