Damage and disruption as Storm Amy batters region

Southport Line

THE front of a Discount Booze store collapsed yesterday, leaving debris falling into the road as Storm Amy lashed the region.

Emergency services cordoned off part of Blessington Road and the pavement at the junction of Walton Breck Road and Sleepers Hill in Anfield, after part of the building collapsed in the strong winds.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were called after the front fascia of the Discount Booze off-licence was badly damaged.

Crews arrived at the scene to find the partial collapse had resulted in a significant amount of debris in the roadway.

Wood, bricks and stonework littered the ground around the building.

The fire service has confirmed there were no reports of any casualties.

A Liverpool City Council structural engineer was also in attendance to help with the building's assessment.

Merseyside Police and council highways were also in attendance to assist with the cordon.

Three fire engines and a search and rescue team were dispatched to the scene and arrived within five minutes of the initial call, which was made shortly after 11am.
