Woman caught after present stolen from shopping bag

A 54-year-old woman was detained by police after a Christmas present was swiped from a lady's bag in Asda. The victim was shopping in Asda on Grange Road, Birkenhead, when she briefly put down her bag, which contained a "high value gift".
The bag was then stolen. But it was promptly recovered as Merseyside Police carried out an area search and detained a 54-year-old woman from the Bebington area. The woman was searched and the gift recovered and returned to the owner.
The incident occurred at about 1.20pm on December 23. The detained woman was dealt with by way of a community resolution.
