JOHN LAWLESS SCRUMS DOWN ON THE RUGBY LEAGUE SCENE
-
THE FIXTURES have fallen nicely for St Helens of late.
Back-to-back games against two of Super League's out-of-form teams - Catalans Dragons and Huddersfield Giants have seen them come away with a pair of victories, racking up 86 points and conceding just four in the process.
Coming off the back of four defeats in their previous five games, which included exiting the Challenge Cup, it will have eased the pressure on head coach Paul Wellens to some extent.
Not that I personally believe he should have been under that much pressure. Super League's competitive, some of the teams will be spending quite a bit more money than Saints, and just because they've been near the top of the tree for a long time doesn’t give them an automatic right to win rugby matches.
Some Saints fans, of course, struggle to see it that way.
Taken out of context, tonight's visit to table toppers Hull KR looks like it should bring an end to the mini-revival (8pm Sewell Group Craven Park, live Sky Sports Action).
