JOHN LAWLESS SCRUMS DOWN ON THE RUGBY LEAGUE SCENE

Saints alive - but need to get better

ST HELENS are just 80 minutes away from the Grand Final - but they will need to improve on last week's dramatic win at Leeds if they're to get the better of Hull KR tomorrow (5.30pm, Sewell Group Craven Park, live BBC2).

That's the view of Saints boss Paul Wellens and something he was quick to emphasise to his charges after their miraculous 16-14 win at Headingley last Saturday.

Wellens said: “I spoke to the players after the game and told them it was important to enjoy the victory - it was a special win for us.

“But I also stressed that when we came in on Monday, we needed to have a mindset around finding the necessary improvements we're going to need for the Hull KR game.

“To the players’ credit, they've done exactly that. There was obviously a lot of attention around how the Leeds game finished, but we need to move on and hopefully create some more special memories”

Rovers have had the better of their contests with Saints so far this season. The two sides played each other three times in the league with Willie Peters’ men emerging victorious on each occasion.
