TRIBUTES have poured in following the death of a former Merseyside teacher.

Roger Stichbury was not only a teacher, but a former club captain of Southport Rugby Club.

Described as a club legend, Roger won a national accolade in 2014 from the Rugby Football Union when he was recognised for his dedication to the club.

He was previously head of PE at King George V Grammar School and took charge of rugby there for more than three decades.

The Waterloo Road-based club said on social media: “Southport RFC is heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Roger Stichbury, a man whose dedication, spirit, and service have shaped our club for more than 40 years.
