MUM ON LOSING HER DAUGHTER ‘ON CUSP OF ADULTHOOD’

- By MEGAN BANNER

A MUM has spoken of the heartbreak of finding out her daughter has cancer over a phone call, made from 3,000 miles away. Isabel McEgan was always a “happy and healthy girl” says her mum Amanda McEngan, 54, from Prescot.

Isabel had been “thrilled” to land a role at Camp America for the summer, after her first year at the University of Liverpool.

Little did she know at the time, that days into the trip her world would come crashing down.

On the run-up to the summer camp, Isabel, known as Izzy, had started to experience pain and swelling in her jaw.

She went to the GP and was told it was “probably an infected wisdom tooth,’ needing a course of antibiotics.

Expecting the pain to ease, Izzy jetted offto America. But, after arriving in the US the pain kept getting worse and Izzy's camp leader took her to get checked out. Scans revealed Izzy had a tumour.

Amanda recalled the heartbreak of being told the devastating news by her daughter, who was only 19, “on the cusp of adulthood,’ at the time.
