Curtains to rise on cinema fundraising

THE new owners of Woolton Picture House expect the project to reopen the site to take a big step forward over the next few weeks.

In May a married couple agreed a deal to buy the historic cinema, found on Mason Street in Woolton Village, which has been closed since the coronavirus pandemic.

Kevin Fearon (inset) and Gillian Miller, who live near Calderstones Park, exchanged contracts with the previous owner to purchase the building for £450,000.

A Community Interest Company (CIC) has been set up to raise funds for the purchase and a further £250,000 for a refurbishment.

A deposit has been paid and the deal is scheduled to be completed in May 2026.

The cinema will reopen if the CIC can raise the required funds.#

A statement released by the owners on the cinema's Facebook page yesterday, said: “Just an update on the project's progress.
