COMMUNITY SPACE HIT FOR SECOND TIME

- By ELLIOT JESSETT

PEOPLE in Kirkby are split between heartbreak and fury after a much-loved community garden was targeted by vandals for the second time in two weeks.

The Eco Therapy Garden was completely trashed after being broken into on November 4, and its children’s toys were stolen and set on fire.

Just 10 days later, the gardens have been raided again, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, leading to the cancellation of an event aimed at toddlers.

The vandalism has left volunteers completely devastated, and the charity said it is reducing its opening times to just one-day-a-week.

The Eco Therapy Garden is a much-loved wellbeing space in Tower Hill and has been serving the community since 2017.

It's a volunteer-led community garden and is free-of-charge and open to everybody.

Martin Drury, project manager at The Eco Therapy Garden, said the charity was trashed for a second time, less than two weeks after vandals destroyed its facilities on November 5.

The Liverpool ECHO reported at the time how volunteers discovered the gardens had been completely ruined and were covered in debris and broken equipment.
