NEW BODY WILL HELP UNLOCK DERELICT DOCKLAND FOR 17,500 HOMES

- By LIAM THORP ECHO Political Editor

SOME 17,500 new homes could be built on the edge of the city centre over the next 15 years.

Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram is today announcing a plan to establish a new Mayoral Development Corporation to accelerate regeneration across the region.

And it will aim to unlock one of the country's largest brownfield sites around Liverpool's northern docks.

Mayor Rotheram will use devolved development powers to fast-track the building of thousands of new homes and major commercial developments, working in tandem with Liverpool City Council, in a new development zone.
