RESIDENTS HIT OUT AS 115-HOME DEVELOPMENT GETS GO-AHEAD

RESIDENTS have hit out at the decision to allow plans for a controversial housing development to go ahead.

Davidsons Development was given the go-ahead for 115 properties to be built on land between Markfield Lane and the A50 Leicester Road, in Field Head.

The plans were approved during a heated Charnwood Borough Council meeting on Thursday.

When the vote was taken, three planning committee members were in favour, with three against and four abstaining.

Faced with the tie, Chair Councillor Jane Lennie gave the casting vote to approve the scheme.

Ahead of the meeting, three parish councils, including Markfield, Groby and Newtown Linford all objected to the proposed development.

Davidsons had previously asked to build 150 homes on the site, but this was later reduced to 115.

One house will be demolished to provide access to the development from Markfield Lane.

Following the decision, residents living in Markfield Lane voiced their disapproval of the decision.
