Son admits he stabbed mother to death outside the family home

A MAN who stabbed his mother to death at her home has pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

Daniel Cook had been due to stand trial for murder in December. However, at a hearing in Leicester Crown Court yesterday, Cook pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

On the evening of Sunday, May 11, police were called to Biddle Road in Littlethorpe, where 72-year-old Ellen Cook was found seriously injured with multiple stab wounds.

Several people in the area rushed to assist her before emergency services arrived.

Despite everyone's best efforts, Mrs Cook died at the scene.
