School 'cycles round world' in Jade's memory
Leicester Mercury
|April 21, 2025
PUPILS, parents and staff at a school have circumnavigated the globe in memory of a teacher who died last summer.
Battling Brook Primary School embarked on an 80-hour fundraising effort earlier this month, in memory of Jade Gilbert, a teacher at the school for over 10 years.
The Gilbert's Globetrotters achieved their goal and collectively cycled 25,582 miles in under 80 hours, raising more than £25,000.
The Hinckley school said it wanted to organise something special to commemorate Miss Gilbert's life, so it combined two of her biggest passions aside from teachingtravelling and going to the gym.
The money raised will go towards an onsite, 30-piece outdoor gym to be called Jade's Gym.
Having beaten their target of £16,500 by nearly £10,000, Battling Brook has organised for a contractor to fit the outdoor gym during the May half term.
