'No bad blood with Ruud'
Leicester Mercury
|June 10, 2025
JANNIK Vestergaard insists there is “no bad blood” between him and Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and he won't demand to leave this summer, writes Jordan Blackwell.
After playing regularly under van Nistelrooy until March, Vestergaard was dropped abruptly from the City side and didn’t even make the bench for the remainder of the season.
Van Nistelrooy said it was a matter of selection, with Conor Coady and Wout Faes in the starting line-up and with Caleb Okoli on the bench.
But when Faes was injured for the away trip to Brighton, Vestergaard still didn’t make the squad, van Nistelrooy choosing instead to go without centre-back cover.
Vestergaard, right, who did continue to train with City’s first team, has now played down his absence from the squad.
While he admits to frustration, he also understood that his performances were not leading to results, and said there is a mutual respect between him and the manager.
