Lightning snatch dramatic 33-33 draw with Chiefs thanks to Davey's late try
Leicester Mercury
|November 11, 2025
MEG Davey's dramatic late try earned Loughborough Lightning a 33-33 draw with Exeter Chiefs in their thrilling Premiership Women's Rugby clash at cinch Stadium at Franklin's Gardens.
-
Lightning struck first just short of the ten-minute mark, with World Cup-winning flanker Sadia Kabeya, crashing over from close range.
Exeter responded through tighthead prop DaLeaka Menin in a similar fashion from short-range following a break down the wing by Francesca Granzotto.
Lightning showed exciting flashes in their attacking sets with the offload game working brilliantly, and it was classic Alev Kelter who went over for Loughborough's second with a brilliant running line off the shoulder of scrumhalf Lis Maude which left the defenders trailing in her wake.
The Chiefs had a handful of opportunities inside the Lightning 22 to level the score, and hard graft from the home defence initially denied them the points, but eventually Exeter got their reward when Maisy Allen crashed over, leaving the scores level at the break.
Exeter took the lead for the first time in the second half after a loose ball allowed winger Moloney-MacDonald to pick up and finish.
That was followed shortly after by Chiefs captain Emily Robinson dotting down as well.
