Kidney care 'must improve'
Leicester Mercury
|September 24, 2025
PATIENTS with rare kidney diseases are facing long delays in diagnosis, inconsistent care and outdated treatments according to a report from Kidney Research UK.
The charity said the conditions take a significant toll, disrupting education, work and family life.
The report's findings have been backed by Adam Musa, from Leicester, who was diagnosed with congenital renal dysplasia in 2009.
He received a transplant from his father, but the kidney failed after nine years, forcing him back on to dialysis for a further six years. In 2024, he received a second transplant.
The condition has meant long term reliance on dialysis, hospitalisations and reduced work capacity, placing economic as well as medical strain on his family.
