It's sleepless nights for some as railway works make a weekend racket
Leicester Mercury
|July 07, 2025
NOISE from overnight railway work has been criticised by some people living nearby.
Network Rail began six consecutive weekends of engineering work in South Wigston on June 21, as part of improvements to the Midland Main Line.
But the noise is becoming an issue for residents of Hanson Court and neighbouring streets.
Lin Holyland, 75, whose home backs on to the railway line, said: "It's horrendous. I mean it's so, so noisy, especially the other night.
"I don't know what happened but it was even louder than usual and it went on for the whole night till probably like 9am."
'NOISE BEING KEPT TO A MINIMUM'
