HIGH JUMPER HAS BATTLED THROUGH A TURBULENT YEAR - HELPED BY HIS STINT ON GRUELLING REALITY TV SHOW

- Will Jennings, of Sportsbeat.

JONATHAN Broom-Edwards credits his gruelling stint on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins for helping him battle through a year of illness and injury hell

The Loughborough high jumper, 37, is in New Delhi for the World Para Athletics Championships after a turbulent year on the circuit.

Broom-Edwards, who took Paralympic gold in Tokyo after bronze in Rio, achieved a valiant fifth-place finish in Paris last summer, having miraculously made it to the French capital after an ankle injury.

In the 12 months that have followed, the three-time defending world champion has suffered a further Achilles injury while also losing 4kg through illness and suffering from the flu.

Broom-Edwards believes his time under the auspices of military men Jason Fox and Billy Billingham on Channel 4, plus his memorable Paralympic gold in the Japanese capital, have made him more hardened for battle as he now bids to make it four global glories in a row.

"It's been a year and a bit! I'm in a good place now, though," he said.
