A ROUND-the-clock “miracle” service at a hospital will make “a lot of difference” to stroke patients, says a man who owes his life to the procedure.

Paul Haywood, who suffered a serious stroke in September 2023, said he “probably wouldn't be here or be in a worse state” if it was not for the service.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) has made its Mechanical Thrombectomy service, which treats patients who have suffered severe strokes, available 24/7.

The emergency procedure, carried out at the Queen’s Medical Centre, restores blood flow to the brain, potentially saving lives and avoiding lifelong disabilities.
