Hundreds of animals abandoned this year

NEARLY 300 pets have been abandoned in Leicestershire so far in 2025, the RSPCA has revealed.

The charity said there is an epidemic of abandonment and neglect and it expects a further surge of dumped animals over the winter.

The RSPCA said that by the end of October, 297 incidents involving animals being abandoned or dumped were raised with its emergency line.

This time last year, 305 incidents had been reported over the same period.

Between November 2024 and January, there were 64 abandonment incidents in the county.
