De Cordova-Reid is now leading option at no.10
Leicester Mercury
|November 12, 2025
MARTI Cifuentes’ experiments over the past two games may have revealed that his initial instincts were correct.
The Leicester City manager has tweaked his system slightly to take on Middlesbrough and Norwich, with three centre-backs and two strikers on the pitch at the start of each game.
But it didn’t make City any better on the ball. In fact, they had their lowest share of possession against Boro.
Off the ball, it seemed there were square pegs in round holes, with Caleb Okoli at right-back as an example. City didn’t necessarily look comfortable.
When Ben Nelson was stretchered off at Norwich, Cifuentes brought on Luke Thomas and reverted to his previous plan.
Then, with the second-half substitutions, it felt like he got back to the most effective lineup.
In their best periods this season, City have had a recognised number 10 playing in the pocket, whether that was Aaron Ramsey or Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
With Ramsey injured, De Cordova-Reid is now the lead option.
