240-homes plan for village refused

A VILLAGE is being “submerged” with plans for housing, a councillor has claimed, as proposals for 240 houses were refused.

David Wilson Homes had wanted to build the properties on land to the north of Newbold Verdon, where hundreds of homes are at various stages of the planning process.

The developer had also put aside land for a cemetery and extra car parking for the village’s medical centre.

However, the Barlestone Road scheme was unpopular with councillors on Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's planning committee, who unanimously voted to reject it, saying the site was “the wrong place” for houses.

Hundreds of homes are being built off Brascote Lane in the village, with an extension to the scheme approved last month.

Committee members said they had “no option” but to approve the extension as the original development was given approval by planning inspectors.

A further 200 houses have also been proposed by Bloor Homes for fields off Bosworth Lane.
