WOMAN, 93, WAS KNOWN FOR BEING A DORKING CHARACTER
Leatherhead and Dorking Advertiser
|June 19, 2025
A WOMAN whose creative talents helped brighten a town - quite literally - has died, aged 93.
-
Eve Wood was a well-known and colourful character in Dorking, who brought fun to community events with her wonderful hand-made costumes.
Eve was born in Dorking and after she left school went to work with Mr Dipple the tailor in West Street, where she received training to become a tailoress.
She met and married Kenneth Wood of Hart, Scales and Hodges solicitors. Being a very proficient tailoress by then, she made all of the wedding outfits herself, including her wedding dress and her new husband's suit. They started their married life in Myrtle Road and later moved to Longfield Road and had three children.
