Recycling bins closed thanks to fly-tippers

PERSISTENT and ongoing fly-tipping has forced the permanent closure of a Surrey recycling site.

The recycling bins in Lower Kingswood have been plagued with illegal dumping despite being plastered with warning posters saying fly-tipping was a criminal offence - and that continued misuse would result in its closure.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council has said it will continue to monitor the site in Stubbs Lane, after it was closed on Monday, in an effort to deter any further tips.

The fly-tipping, it added, was not only a nuisance but risked contaminating recycling, turning it into useless landfill.
