Seventies was the golden age of Eurovision when singers had flare

Kate Wobschall on Best of Eurovision in the 70s
-
The Eurovision Song Contest and the 1970s - if ever a singing competition and a decade were made for one another, this was it. A celebration of all things kitsch in the decade that fashion forgot - what could be more apt?
This marriage made in satin and floral print heaven is celebrated in Channel 5's The Best of Eurovision in the 70s.
The show does exactly what it says on the tin - it brings the lucky viewer footage of fabulous horrors such as Cliff Richard's frankly bizarre dance in Power To All Our Friends (think Bruce Grobbelaar's wobbly knees against Roma, only with a far worse shirt).
Everywhere you look there are kaftans, platform boots, whopping collars, flares so wide they have a life of their own - and that's just the presenters.
These are the days when the UK actually had a good chance of winning. The days before everyone fell out with us over Brexit and before Australia started taking part.
Winners, losers and enthusiasts - and Nina Myskow, who is rolled out for every single Channel 5 docu-celebration - assemble to offer their thoughts, hopes and memories as we begin the countdown to this year's competition, which starts tomorrow.

Channel 4's snail-paced, dreary new drama is a holiday from hell
Holidays can be hell, as anyone who's flown on a budget airline will know. Things have a tendency to go wrong, and flinging a family together in a confined space - like, say, a holiday cabin on the edge of a Scottish lock - can cause all kinds of problems.
