The band, from Alabama via the farthest reaches of our solar system, formed in 1992 and while not having any chart hits, were staples on alternative radio, particularly John Peel's Radio One programme.

The quartet actually recorded six sessions of space age-themed surf-punk for the DJ's show-more than David Bowie, Pulp or Pink Floyd.

And it's those megastar names which act as a testament to the importance of the late night radio show, pushing many upcoming acts on to mainstream success.
