As far as season-ending cliffhangers go, the verdict of a review in a newspaper may not be quite up there with a galaxy-ending threat lurking over the horizon of the latest Marvel outing, but it is totally in keeping with the world of The Bear.
I may be slightly biased on this one but, as someone who works in the industry, it gladdens my heart to see the finale of a major TV show in the third decade of the 21st century hinge on an opinion in a newspaper...
The entire fourth series of one of the most award-garlanded small-screen shows in recent years has just arrived on Disney+.
The show has, so far, won 21 Emmys, five Golden Globes and a truckload more according to its Wiki page. And, given that it's already been renewed for a fifth season, you'd be a fool to bet against it adding to that tally.
The show began in 2022 with central character Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White stars) returning to Chicago in the aftermath of his elder brother Mikey's suicide.
Carmy, a chef of prodigious talents and more familiar with the world of Michelin-starred restaurants, is back in town to takeover the family's beef sandwich shop. It's not long before Carmy reveals his plans to turn the somewhat rundown, chaotic, financially shambolic shop into a fine-dining restaurant - The Bear.
