Qazigund in south Kashmir also recorded its warmest June in over five decades. The town registered an average maximum of 30.3°C and a mean minimum of 16.1°C, pushing the overall monthly average to 23.2°C — the highest since 1973.

Back in 1973, Qazigund had recorded its hottest June on record with an overall average of 23.7°C. In 1978 too, the average matched this year's 23.2°C, although with slightly different temperature splits.

Arif further noted that Qazigund’s warmest average minimum for June remains 17.3°C, recorded in 1971, when the overall average temperature was 23.3°C.

The unprecedented rise in average temperatures this June underscores the growing impact of climate variability in the region, which is also seeing frequent and intense heatwaves.

Srinagar Hotter

popular tourist destination Gulmarg relatively cooler at 24.5°C.

In the Jammu region, Banihal recorded 29.6°C, Batote 27.5°C, Katra 26.0°C, and Bhaderwah 31.8°C.
