Kashmir Wetlands Come Alive With Migratory Birds
Kashmir Observer
|Kashmir Observer Nov 7 Issue
Thousands of birds from across Asia arrive in Kashmir’s water bodies as winter arrives
With the arrival of winter, Kashmir’s wetlands are once again witnessing a breathtaking transformation, turning into vibrant sanctuaries for thousands of migratory birds escaping the freezing landscapes of Europe, Central Asia, and parts of East Asia.
Every year, as temperatures drop across the northern hemisphere, winged visitors take flight toward the valley’s water bodies, which serve as resting and feeding grounds through the colder months.
From Hokersar to Wular, Haigam, and Shalbugh, these wetlands have begun echoing with the calls of species that travel thousands of miles to find temporary refuge in Kashmir.
Officials from the Wildlife Department told KNO that the current migratory season began in late October and will continue till March.
